The 2016 Budget has been generating a lot of controversy in the past one week, after the budget was sent to the executive. It was alleged that the National Assembly removed the Lagos – Calabar Rail Project from the budget sent to them, a claim which the executive have come to debunk, saying the said project was in the supplementary budget that was defended by the Ministry of Transportation.
According to Vanguard, Southern senators have asked the president not to sign the Budget into law. Meanwhile, members of the House of Representatives have accused the House Committee Chairman on Appropriation, Abdulmumin Jibrinof being the force behind the fiasco surrounding the 2016 budget.
Speaking after a closed door meeting on Wednesday, Speaker of the House of Representatives, Hon. Yakubu Dogara said “In the interest of our people, in view of the prevailing economic situation, the House has decided to re-examine the 2016 budget.”
Vanguard also reported that the South South, South East, and South East senators who met in different locations after plenary, have “resolved to jettison the budget as passed by the National Assembly and urged the President not to sign the document until the Calabar-Lagos rail project was included.”
