Ugandan Officials Threatened With Sack Over Unnecessary Trips

Uganda Finance Minister Matia Kasaija has said officials could be sacked if they're found to have taken unnecessary trips on government money. The announcement was part of cost-cutting measures to help fund other parts of government spending.

In parliament today, Mr Kasaija outlined the country's largest ever government budget amounting to around $8bn (£5.5bn) of spending in the next financial year.

He wants to boost spending on infrastructure development, and invest in agriculture, tourism and trade, as well as technology.

But he said that there will be no new taxes which begs the question about how the country is going to afford it.
