The Lagos state commissioner of Information and Strategy, Steve Ayorindemade this known in a series of tweets on Friday evening.
“The demolished building on Rumens Road, Ikoyi was properly served contravention and quit order since March. Both the landlord and tenants. No structure would have been demolished if it didn’t contravene physical planning laws. Sympathies are Okay, but Lagos State Government will enforce its laws.Adequate notices were given with documentary evidence. The public deserves to be informed about the law against unapproved structures. The demolition of certain structures by the Lagos State Ministry of Physical Planning was carried out because the buildings had no permit,” Ayorinde Tweeted.
Good evening Commissioner. Were the demolished buildings in Ikoyi boldly & clearly marked for contravention and demolition?@stevoree
@Bar_Baric yes indeed, they were marked with photo evidence. The owners and tenants simply ignored the notices and quit order since March!
@Bar_Baric we have the pix. I have copies. Let any aggrieved tenant take a legal option if that will help. But I doubt if they will.
